Can I play Dragon Age: The Veilguard on Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and other gaming handhelds? – Best settings to use
Can I play Dragon Age: The Veilguard on gaming handhelds (Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go)?
Yes, you certainly can. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is “certified” for the Steam Deck, and I’ve found it to work well on ROG Ally, ROG Ally X, and Legion Go. You’ll want to tweak some settings to get the most optimal experience, no matter what device you’re playing on.
The best settings to play Dragon Age: The Veilguard on gaming handhelds
Rebecca Spear
Rebecca was lucky enough to be the first wave of Steam Deck adopters. Since then, he’s got the ROG Ally, ROG Ally X, Legion Go, and other gaming handhelds. He is always eager to find the best settings for whatever games he plays. Almost every night, you can find him playing on one of these devices.
As you can see in our Dragon Age: Veilguard review, this game may look stylish, but it’s still a very powerful game. There are tons of treasures, effects, and details to offer in each Dragon Age: The Veilguard environment. In that case, The first time you start The Veilguard, it will take a few minutes to load the shaders. In my experience, my ROG Ally, ROG Ally X, and Legion Go showed some progress during this process, but Steam Deck just showed a black page. Leave the tools alone while it does this, but make sure it’s not asleep. Then you will be better to choose your settings and start playing when it is finished.
Note that whenever you change the layout and graphics settings, The Veilguard will need to be restarted to change to these new settings. Also, it will need to compile the shaders again (but it won’t take as long as the first time). Here are the settings that can be used on gaming handhelds:

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Best configurations for ROG Ally, ROG Ally X, and Legion Go
Windows 11 gaming handhelds like the ROG Ally, ROG Ally X, and Legion Go have more powerful internals than the Steam Deck, so settings can be set a little higher. In these applications, you will also want to set up TDP to Max (play plugged in or docked to combat battery life issues), resolution in 720p (AFMF will make it look good), and set it FPS limit at 30-60FPS it depends on your choice.
If you play on ROG Ally or ROG Ally X, I highly recommend to create an AFMF as this can make the games look a lot smoothness You will want again add ROG Ally VRAM if you haven’t already.

Now jump into your new Dragon Age game, Rook!
It’s been 10 years since a new Dragon Age game was released, and while I was talking to The Veilguard game director during my Dragon Age: The Veilguard preview, this is the first designed with PC gaming handhelds in mind.
From my experiences, I’ve found that The Veilguard’s controls feel natural on handhelds, but you can customize them if you like. Furthermore, this game can run very well on different gaming handhelds as long as the right settings are in place. You’ll want to change a few options on the Steam Deck and change a few on the ROG Ally (or ROG Ally X) and Legion Go to remove some of the choppiness of the setup.
At the time of writing, The Veilguard has not yet been released, but it currently sits at a good 84 Metascore based on reviewers. A big part of enjoying any game is knowing what settings to set to get the most clarity and value possible from the given device. So, make sure you make those changes from the start.
